FiiO is bringing back the Discman with its new DM13, a modern twist on the classic portable CD player. Following the release of their CP13 cassette player, the DM13 is designed with a sleek, rectangular body, featuring buttons on top for playback and volume control, and a segment display on the front to show song details.
The FiiO DM13 is set to launch in September 2024 with a retail price of $179. Initially available in silver, additional colors like blue, red, titanium, and black will be released by the end of the year.
Compact and user-friendly, the FiiO DM13 is slightly larger than a CD. It includes a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and a balanced 4.4 mm port for high-fidelity headphones. FiiO hasn’t disclosed specifics about the headphone amplifier or the internal DAC yet. Additionally, the player supports Bluetooth connections, which are compatible with Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD, along with SBC.
The DM13’s battery promises up to eight hours of playback and charges via USB-C. It also features a desktop mode, allowing it to draw power directly from a USB cable, bypassing the battery. This mode enables the DM13 to function as a stationary CD player, which is ideal for ripping CDs to a computer. The Discman supports various formats for self-burned CDs, including FLAC, WAV, WMA, AAC, and MP3.
