Apple has refreshed its entry-level smartwatch with the launch of the Apple Watch SE 3. The new model was announced at the company’s September event and goes on sale September 19, starting at $249 in U.S. and at £249 in UK. Preorders are open now.
Always-On Display Arrives
For the first time, Apple’s budget watch includes an always-on display. The feature, long limited to higher-end models, means users no longer need to raise their wrist to check the time or notifications. The SE 3 also runs on Apple’s new S10 processor, which promises faster performance and better efficiency. Battery life is rated at up to 18 hours.
The watch comes in 40mm and 44mm aluminum cases, available in midnight and starlight finishes.
Health and Fitness Updates
Apple has added several new health tools. The SE 3 can now detect sleep apnea, provide sleep scores, and estimate ovulation retrospectively. It also includes a temperature sensor, another first for the SE line.
With watchOS 26, the device introduces Workout Buddy, which gives audio feedback during exercise. Users can also control the watch with simple gestures, such as double taps or wrist flicks.
Cellular versions support 5G, and charging speeds are now twice as fast as the previous model. Music and podcasts can also play directly through the built-in speaker.
Stronger Build
Like the new Series 11 and Ultra 3, the SE 3 uses Ion-X glass on its front crystal. Apple says it is twice as resistant to scratches as before, making the watch more durable for everyday wear.
Positioned as the Budget Option
The first Apple Watch SE arrived in 2020, with a second version released in 2022. The line has always offered a mix of older flagship features at a lower price. Earlier models lacked an always-on display and advanced sensors such as ECG or blood oxygen. Those are still missing here, but the SE 3 closes the gap with more health features, faster hardware, and a tougher design.
