Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has joined Turkish side Trabzonspor on loan for the rest of the 2025–26 season.
The 29-year-old moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan in 2023 for an initial €51m (£43m) but struggled to settle. A run of costly errors in his debut campaign put him under pressure, although he did finish the season with an FA Cup winners’ medal.
Struggles at Old Trafford
Last year proved no easier. A hamstring injury kept him out of pre-season, and he made another mistake in United’s shock Carabao Cup exit at Grimsby. His future looked uncertain when United signed Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Antwerp on deadline day for €21m plus add-ons.
United’s Statement
Confirming the move, United said: “André Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan for the duration of the 2025–26 season, subject to international clearance and registration. The move has been completed ahead of the Turkish transfer window closing on Friday. We would like to wish André good luck.”
What It Means for United
The deal offers Onana a chance to restart his career with regular football in Turkey, while United manager Erik ten Hag will turn to Lammens and veteran Tom Heaton as his goalkeeping options.
United return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to face rivals Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
