Defence drone manufacturer Tekever has opened its biggest UK site in Swindon, in a move hailed as a major boost for the town’s growing technology sector.
The Portuguese-headquartered firm, which also has a UK base, said the new facility will produce one of its largest surveillance drones in Britain for the first time, while also ramping up output of another model. The site is based in a Grade II listed building and marks the company’s fourth location in the UK.
Local Leaders Welcome Investment
Councillor Jim Robbins, leader of Swindon Borough Council, said the investment was a “huge endorsement” of the town’s strengths. “We look forward to showcasing Swindon’s strategic advantages so we can build a strong reputation as a national leader in defence manufacturing,” he said.
Tekever is one of several drone companies moving into Swindon. Stark and Munin Dynamics already have facilities in the area, while last week DSEI Flyby announced plans to establish a base, with chief executive Jon Parker saying the town was “on a new trajectory.”
Plans for Jobs and Skills
The company says it wants to help develop local talent and provide opportunities for young people to move into high-tech roles.
Will Stone, MP for Swindon North, said he was “incredibly proud” of Tekever’s decision. “I want to see a drone cluster of excellence established in Swindon,” he said. “That would create highly skilled, well-paid jobs and new training opportunities for young people.”
Swindon’s Growing Drone Hub
Swindon is increasingly being seen as a hub for drone technology, with firms drawn by its location, infrastructure, and potential workforce. Tekever’s expansion is expected to strengthen that reputation further.
