GoPro has unveiled a major refresh of its action camera line-up, including the long-awaited Max2 360, which records in 8K resolution and introduces tool-free replaceable lenses. The company also launched the Lit Hero, a compact camera with a built-in light, and the Fluid Pro AI gimbal, designed to stabilise footage across multiple devices.
Max2 360: 8K performance and smarter design
The new Max2 360 succeeds GoPro’s original Max, launched in 2019, and brings a significant step up in performance. The camera records 360-degree video in 8K at 30 frames per second, supports 10-bit colour and GP-Log recording, and can capture 29MP stills.
A standout feature is its replaceable lenses. For the first time, users can swap out a damaged lens without needing any specialist tools — a practical move for extreme sports enthusiasts who often put their cameras under pressure.
The Max2 also features six built-in microphones for immersive audio, Bluetooth support for wireless mics, and AI-powered object tracking. At 195g, it remains compact, while being waterproof to 5m. GoPro has added flexibility with three mounting options: the company’s trademark folding fingers, a ¼-20 tripod mount, and a new magnetic latch system introduced with the Hero 13 Black.
Lit Hero: small but powerful
Alongside the Max2, GoPro introduced the Lit Hero, a pocket-sized action camera that integrates a built-in light with three brightness settings. It records 4K video at up to 60fps, supports slow-motion capture, and takes 12MP photos.
The camera, weighing 93g, includes HyperSmooth stabilisation, a 1,225 mAh Enduro battery, and the same interchangeable lens design. Like the Max2, it is waterproof to 5m, making it a versatile option for low-light or close-range shooting.
Fluid Pro AI gimbal: stabilisation for all devices
GoPro’s third announcement was the Fluid Pro AI gimbal, designed to work not only with GoPros but also with smartphones and compact cameras up to 400g. It offers three-axis stabilisation, AI subject tracking from both front and rear, and an integrated fill light. The company claims a battery life of up to 18 hours, making it suitable for long shoots or travel.
Pricing and release dates
The GoPro Max2 360 is priced at $499.99 and will ship from 30 September. The Lit Hero will retail at $269.99, while the Fluid Pro AI gimbal is set at $229.99, both available from 21 October.
