Netflix has announced that the highly anticipated second season of Squid Game will premiere on December 26th, 2024. The announcement came alongside a track-and-field-inspired teaser released on July 31st. In addition to revealing the release date for Season 2, Netflix also confirmed that the third and final season of the South Korean drama will debut in 2025.
Teaser and Plot Overview
The nearly minute-long teaser begins with a close-up of men and women running on a crowded track, accompanied by sounds of screams and people falling. The camera then shifts to a view of the Front Man, who ominously asks, “It’s been three years. Do you want to play a game?”
According to an official synopsis: “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae) remains determined to find the people behind the game and end their vicious sport. Using his fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious place: looking for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. However, when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
Creator’s Insights
Series creator, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk shared his excitement and provided a teaser in an open letter to fans. “Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of Season 1, returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either,” Hwang wrote. He added that the clash between Gi-hun and the Front Man will continue into the series finale with Season 3, slated for next year.
Hwang expressed his thrill in seeing the story of Squid Game come full circle and promised fans another thrilling ride. “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride,” he concluded.

Lee Jung-jae will return as Player 456, joined by returning cast members Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo. New additions to the cast include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, and several others.
