Toyota has reopened UK order books for its acclaimed GR Yaris, introducing a new Aero Performance special edition—but dropping the automatic gearbox option entirely.
The carmaker had previously halted UK sales, citing “exceptional demand” for the hot hatch. With the arrival of the new variant, sales resume, though only in strictly limited numbers.
No Automatic Option
The facelifted GR Yaris was launched last year with the option of an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, a Toyota spokesperson confirmed the UK market will no longer get that gearbox, with most buyers overwhelmingly favouring the six-speed manual.
Aerodynamic Upgrades Inspired by Racing
Priced from £48,995—around £2,950 more than the standard model—the Aero Performance edition adds a series of motorsport-inspired aerodynamic enhancements.
Developed in collaboration with Rookie Racing, the upgrades include:
- A new chin spoiler to reduce front lift
- A larger bonnet vent for improved engine cooling
- A flat underfloor to smooth airflow beneath the car
- New ducts in the front wings and rear bumper to aid brake cooling and reduce turbulence
- An adjustable roof-mounted rear spoiler
Inside, the car features a rally-style vertical handbrake lever, nodding to the GR Yaris’s rallying roots.
Availability and Delivery
The Aero Performance edition will be sold exclusively through Toyota GR Centres across the UK. Orders are open now, with deliveries expected to begin in March 2026.
Cult Hot Hatch
Since its debut, the GR Yaris has built a reputation as one of the most engaging driver’s cars of recent years, developed with input from Toyota’s World Rally Championship team. Its limited numbers and enthusiast appeal have made it one of the most in-demand performance cars on the UK market.
The addition of the Aero Performance model is expected to further cement that status, offering a more extreme version for dedicated fans, even as the car drops its short-lived automatic option.
